Today I Planted a Tree

For those who died

For those whose breaths I took

So that others may live

So that others may live in freedom

Into the grave I placed

Those harmed without intent

Those whose harm weighed necessary

Those intended but mistaken

Into the grave I placed my sin, my guilt, my shame

For the pain of innocents

For the dishonor of souls

I now stand in your judgment

You alone are God

You alone bring life and death

Have mercy, take this sin from me

Cleanse me, make me pure

Today I planted a tree

May it flourish
